A pediatric dentist has completed a least two years of specialized training beyond dental school. The pediatric dental residency focuses on the special care of children from infancy through adolescence. Amongst many things, the residency teaches the pediatric dentist about the process of adolescent tooth replacement and the importance of regular care from a young age. During these advanced studies dentists learn techniques on how to calm the nerves of young patients and how to use equipment specially designed for children.
